Awesome April Weekend!!

This past weekend consisted of a fun filled Cook sibling hang-out/catch up session.  Seth and I had an enjoyable, much needed, relaxing weekend.  It was not hectic or overbooked, which was delightful!  Our life is finally starting to slow down just a tad it seems as we get settled into being back in the South and living in Camden, so we are hoping it stays that way!

Friday evening Emily and Trevor came into town.  We stayed up a bit later chatting with the two of them and Zach, until finally we couldn't hang any longer and went to bed.

Saturday morning, Emily and I ran a 5k with Sue.

Now let's set the record straight.  I've probably mentioned before that I do not enjoy running.  Not one bit.  I only run b/c overall it is a good workout:  I want to stay in shape for my health and I want to always look good/fit for my man.  Races make running a lot more doable for me.  Even though I haven't been quite consistent in my running lately and even though I haven't ran three miles since the Haiti run in October, I decided to run for fun with Emily and Sue.  The Wednesday before the race I decided I'd try and run three miles in the afternoon when I got off 'babysitting'.  It was in the upper 70's/lower 80's and boy did I have to walk a good bit, but I did make it in about 37 minutes.  I was okay with that time, and hoped that I'd do a little better the morning of the race due to it being cooler.  Emily on the other hand is more of a fast paced, no music, hardcore, run for fun type of runner.  I knew I wouldn't be able to hang with her.  At the first of the race (that took us through beautiful downtown Camden) Emily ran at my pace.  As I listened to my headphone music in one ear, I could tell she was definitely holding back and that made me nervous.  Now, I enjoy running by myself more than running with other folks.  When I run with others I feel like I have to entertain them, talk, or run faster than I intended too.  I told Emily to go ahead because we both knew that I was a snail compared to her.  She finally broke loose and was going to see what she could accomplish.

I enjoyed my pace and felt good during the run.  I didn't walk at all.  I even passed a few people, which I would smile in my head while doing :).  Towards the finish line I began to run a bit faster b/c I knew I was at the end.  There were also two people in front of me, so I definitely wanted to pass and Beat them at the finish (which I did of course) :).

Emily finishing up around 28 minutes.

She is a bit more of an elegant, properly formed runner than I.

Huffing and puffing to pass this guy.  As you can see I'm sucking in the air and do not have proper formation :).  I finished in 33 minutes (which I was actually pretty content with since my best time is 30 minutes).

Emily got first in her age group and won a horseshoe type medal.  Now, if she would have stayed with me she would have totally missed out on being a winner :)!

Back at our place after the run.

After the race we went and got Nana and took her to Camden's Farmer's Market.

Where we took a muscle woman picture.

And then a normal one.

After the market we all went to Grandmother Cook's house and watched the guys do yard work.  While they were working Emily and I left to get things ready for the cookout/grilling we had planned at Zach's house.

Zach was a great host and had brats and hamburgers for us all.  We all very much enjoyed hanging out on his awesome porch, eating dinner, chatting, and just being together.

The Cook family minus Mrs. Cynthia, Trevor (Cutsinger rather than Cook), me, and Karla!

Seth trying to look as big as his younger brother :).

Emily has recently found out she has to go gluten free with her diet.  I decided to do dessert for our cookout.  After talking with a friend from Utah (whom we miss very much! As do we miss everyone in Utah!!) she suggested to make a crustless Cheesecake.  It turned out pretty good (at least I think/hope), and I had strawberries and crushed graham crackers on the side for those that wanted them.  While the siblings were chatting and hanging out at Zach's, Emily was still just a bit hungry and decided to eat a little cheesecake.  We all knew she was doing this, but we just didn't know to what extent it was occurring.  When we were about to leave, Zach requested to keep the cheesecake at his place and he would gladly finish it. Zach is appalled once he opens the fridge and sees the remainder of the cheesecake.....

Now mind you.  It was already half eaten before Emily started on it.  But then...she leaves just a slither of it behind :).

Cook kiddo's + their better halves :).

Sunday morning we had breakfast with Nana.  Boy oh Boy was that a FEAST!  There were lots of food and a huge variety of options!

The Fellas.

Nana.  Look at all the goodness!

Emily and Trevor left for church with Trevor's family and Seth and I went back to our place to get ready for church as well.  Seth has recently acquired a suit and a few blazers from his grandparents.  The poor kid didn't have ANY before!  He wanted to dress up Sunday for church (shocker at that!) and tried a few on.

My man looking sharp!  Hope he never looks at this to see this picture on the blog :)!  We took this to send to Trevor and Emily that goes along with a song they had been singing over the weekend.

As we wrap up we can't go without a picture of my favorite nephew...

Now, that is just sweet.  Looking like his daddio in this picture so much!  He's adorable!

And also a picture of another cute little guy in my life...

He is smiling so big, I know I'm just going to hear him cackle soooon!  He's such a little cutie.

What an awesome weekend we had and are looking forward to all the fun ones that are upcoming as well!  We are visiting our Utah/Southern friends Joe & Gina soon--Can't wait :)!  We'll get to spend Mother's Day with our own MOTHERS!  We'll get to see many many friends at Leanna & Billy's reception mid May!  My man turns 25 in May and after many years of not being with family, we'll get to celebrate it with family this year :)!

Thankful for it being mid-week and warm today!

Isn't he such a cute one ?  I DEF think so!

Busy Bees

Hmmmm....

Let's see what's been going on in our little Cook lives....

Well first off.  Life seems to be speeding by so quickly!  Seth and I aren't even sure where all the time is going, but we can tell you that it is flying by.  We finally have all of OUR things moved into our rental home, just don't quite have everything settled where we want yet.  The previous owners have moved all their belongings out and we have moved all our belongings in.  We have PLENTY of space now :).

You see, Seth and I have been married for about 2 1/2 years.  As soon as we were married, we moved to Utah with very few items.  Basically all we had was a futon, washer/dryer, dining room table, one bedroom suite, a few side tables, kitchen items, and a desk.  We were moving into a 550 sq ft apt, so even though we had few items it filled up that small space perfectly.  Seth and I upgraded apartments while in Utah and moved into a 600 sq ft apt.  In that apartment we acquired a table for our TV and chairs for our dining room table. Again, everything fit into that 600 sq ft apt nicely.  We have now moved into a 2400 sq ft home where we could fit all of our belongings into the master bedroom :).  Although we have received a few more items: a dining room table, china cabinet, and another bed we still do not own enough furniture to fill up this HUGE home we are now renting. So, if you visit, please keep this little story in mind while you are thinking in your head 'what a large home for this measly little couple and their measly belongings' :).

Two fun Stories:

About two weeks ago my mom came to visit us.  She had a few fun issues arise during her visit :).  After getting lost and being given the wrong directions by me, she finally makes it to our home.  I make her eat Kale, which she doesn't seem to enjoy, referring to it as 'plate decoration'.  She despised my hair dryer b/c it took too long to dry hair (which in really did!) and so she bought me a new hair dryer.  The new hair dryer must have a pretty hefty voltage, since it keeps knocking the power off in each room that I use it in :).  She somehow gets locked in the guest room she was staying in and after making much racket (that Seth and I thought was just her walking around) she called me on my cell phone to come and get her out.  She then preceded to take a shower where the shower head fell on her during said shower :).  After having such a good first visit with us, I sure hopes she is willing to come back for another visit!!

Last night we encountered our first black snack.  Seth walks in and says, "Hey Erika, why would someone put a fake snake on our porch?"  I looked at him and said, "I doubt anyone would do that.  Why?"  He replies with, "There is a fake snake out there right now."  So, like anyone else I said let's go take a look and turn the porch light on while we look.  As we turn on the light and open the door I see the black 'fake' snake that Seth was referring to, but I see the snake move a bit.  "That is not a fake snake Seth. That is a real snake. What made you think it was fake?"  Seth replies with "Well, I walked onto the porch and stepped over it.  I kicked it and it didn't move, so I was like Wheewwwww, that isn't a real snake."  Hmmmm....interesting reasoning huh?

The 'fake' snake.

While Seth has been working hard and getting settled into his job in Florence, I have been watching this cute little fella.

This little guy is one of the best babies I've ever dealt with.  He's cute, sweet, and he just wants to look at you and coo and smile.  He'll make ya want one of your own (as long as they are as good as he is!) :).

Now we always have to have a picture of the little fella that I just plain ol adore.  He is just such a handsome baby.  I always try to say he has his auntie e's eyes (even though his daddio may have the same eyes) they are mine :).

Last weekend, Seth and I went to Joanna and Greenwood.  While staying in Joanna we got to watch Mackay :).  Mackay sure did love spending time with his auntie and uncle!  Momma and I took Mackay to the Joanna festival with Mrs. Tammy and her grandson on Saturday.

:).

Seth's brother Zach knows some people who know some people who also know some people :). Zach was able to get two tickets to the Masters for Sunday.  He asked Seth to go, and boy was Seth a giddy man.  He was beyond ecstatic and thoroughly enjoyed himself (even in the rain)!  Seth and Zach both loved that day and are more than ready to return any and every year to the Masters.

I use to think these bros looked similar, but not seeing it much anymore! Right before heading out to enjoy their day.

Seth's family will be in town this weekend and us girls will be running in a 5k race.  I'm looking forward to being with Mrs. Cynthia and Emily, but not much looking forward to this running deal.  Deep down I despise running, but know that is a good workout overall.  I enjoy eating so I have to do something to stay somewhat in shape and running is the easiest for me at the moment.  I haven't kept my running up very well since we've moved; only running sporadically when I get a little bit of time.  We'll see how I make it on Saturday :).

A lovely picture at the park.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

We're Southerner's Again :)

Well Folks, We've Moved :)!

Well Folks, We've Moved :(!

Although our move was very exciting in multiple ways:
-Seth has a job, which he is so excited about-
-We're going to be so close to both of our families....We may even get tired of being so close to each other!-
-We'll have nicer winters (and probably worse everything else!)-
-We'll be surrounded by beautiful trees!-
-And we'll be so much closer to this cute little stud....-

Oh, he needs his Auntie E and Uncle Seth close!

Our move was just as sad in other ways:
-Soooo many friends that we are leaving behind.-
-Beautiful scenery!-
-Our Wellsville Mountain landscape and gorgeous Cache Valley.-
-Our church-
-Just plain Seth and I-
-Absolutely Amazing Summers!!!-
-A land of hardly any bugs!-
-A land of NOOOO humidity!-
-My wonderful job working with wonderful people.-

Before we start the stories about our move back to the SouthEast, let's first remember that our trip West 2 1/2 years ago was such a wonderful, perfect, no hiccups, smooth ride, easy going, beautiful, warm, and delightful trip.  We took four days to venture through GA, TN, MO, KS, NE, WY, and finally into UT.  We enjoyed picnics, warm sunshine, new landscape, the excitement of being newly weds, and having Seth's parents venture to the West with us.

Our trip back to the South East didn't go quite as Seth and I had planned :).  Although, there were a few minor glitches along the way, we made it to SC all in one piece.  We are very very thankful to have had Mr. Jimmy traveling with us, so many of our friends and family praying for us along the way, and that all the glitches had impeccably perfect timing!

We picked Seth's dad up Thursday 3.21 with intentions to eat one of our last Utah meals at Seth's favorite, Red Iguana.  Didn't happen...Red Iguana was PACKED out, so we settled for In & Out Burger.  Friday I finished up my last day at work and the chaos began!

The route that we had planned to take happened to be on the course of a snow storm; therefore, our trip had to be rerouted.  Seth & Mr. Jimmy decided we should take the southern route, which added several hundred miles to our trip.  This caused us to need to leave on Friday afternoon.  Fortunately we did have some friends in Price, UT and were able to meet them for dinner.

Beautiful picture, still in UT.

Saturday we spent all day traveling through New Mexico.  New Mexico had a few sketchy people that we encountered and was just simply not my favorite state.  I'll let that stay at that.  That evening during one of our gas stops my car had a small cranking issue which then led to smoke coming from the hood.  I drove it to a small parking area and Mr. Jimmy proceeded to tell me 'She's done.' After telling Seth, the men took Seth's truck off the Penske trailer and moved my beaut onto it.  Knowing we still had a bit to drive we scarfed down some Subway and jumped back into the trucks.

**The good:  I had been driving the car just before we stopped for gas.  The car could have easily had these issues arise while I was driving it and I wouldn't have been able to handle her, but she waited to act up while we were at a gas station with the Cook men around to handle the situation.**

Sunday we started driving super early to make up for lost time on Saturday.  I drove the Penske since it was an automatic and probably a lot easier than driving Seth's truck.  Sunday we traveled through TX, OK, AK, and was in TN when another issue arose.  Seth and I both heard a pretty loud noise while traveling on Memphis' interstate.  I asked Seth what it was and he said he hoped it was something in the road that we had ran over.  Seth began to look for Mr. Jimmy in the mirrors and couldn't find him.  Seth told me to get his phone out because he knew his dad was about to call.  Right when I got his phone out Mr. Jimmy called to say a trailer tire blew off the axle.  Seth pulled over on the side of the interstate while Mr. Jimmy was saving the trailer tire.  We called the Penske emergency crew and they said they'd get someone to help us within 90 minutes.  After much debate Mr. Jimmy went to the hotel we were to stay at that night while Seth and I waited for the Penske folks.

While waiting, I figured we may as well capture the moment to remember for later laughs.

After our second long day of traveling, Seth and I were both pretty pooped.

They finally made it exactly 90 minutes later :).

Working on switching the trailer's out.

Even though the girl thought it a tad weird, it was to crazy not to get a picture with the penske after all that'd happened.

**The Good:  We had just switched from me driving the Penske to Seth driving.  We had also just gotten out of a pretty tight single lane construction.  If the tire would have blown off then we'd have held up lots of traffic and there was NO room for us to have pulled over.  No one was hit or hurt by the tire blowing off and rolling around in the lanes of the interstate.  We happened to be on a very wide interstate with a very spacious side emergency parking.  Lots of good!!**

We got to the hotel about 1230-1ish and slept in a tad the next morning before beginning our final leg to South Carolina!  No glitches on Monday!

What a great sight!

Tuesday we were going to move into a house in Camden that Seth's aunt and uncle own.  My parents and brother took the day off to help move us, but that morning we found out there was a bit of an issue and we couldn't move in.  We went on to Camden to stay with Seth's grandmother Tuesday evening.  Wednesday we found out we could go ahead and move in anytime (once the kinks were worked out), so we headed back to Joanna to get the Penske and bring it back to Camden.  After traveling for an hour and a half from Camden to Joanna, we pull into my parents driveway and I immediately see Seth's face drop and disbelief set it. I asked what was wrong and he hit the keychain.  I looked and only saw his red truck keys.  He said he left the Penske truck keys at his grandmother's house.

**At this point I will have to say that I had reached my limit of issues that I could handle.  I am not a very emotional girl-I don't cry very often.  I get very embarrassed when someone sees me cry for some odd reason, so I avoid these situations at all cost.  So, we pull into the driveway for Seth to say he left the keys to the Penske in Camden and I just burst into tears.  I try to contain the tears and get myself together to walk into my parent's home.  At this point Seth just wants to be alone, so I walk into my parents thinking I had everything under control.  I see my mom and dad and I again burst into tears and tell them 'We left the keys in Camden'.  My dad consoles me and tells me everything will be okay.  Then he goes outside to call some of his Joanna buddies to see if anyone can hotwire a Penske diesel :).

The Good:  Zach is in Camden.  My Uncle Henry is in Irmo.  Zach got the keys and took them to meet my Uncle on Clemson Rd. My Uncle Henry met my Mom and I in Chapin, and we were able to bring the Penske back to Camden that evening!**

We still haven't gotten into our routine here or settled into our new place, but we are working on getting that all into gear QUICK.  Seth is enjoying the new job, and I am enjoying babysitting Seth's cousin Levi in the mean time.  It's been nice to have our families close and spend Easter with everyone.  Here are a few pictures from Utah and from Easter in SC.
